PARENTING

Sacred Parenting is unlike any other parenting book on the market. This is not a “how-to” book that teaches readers the ways to discipline their kids or help them achieve their full potential. Instead of a discussion about how parents change their children, Sacred Parenting turns the tables and demonstrates how God uses children to change their parents.

Stepping beyond the overly-tilled soil of method books, parents can learn a whole new side of parenting. They’ll be encouraged by stories that tell how other parents handled the challenges and difficulties of being a parent – and how their children transformed their relationship with God.

MARRIAGE

Happy is good. Holy is better.

Your marriage is more than a sacred covenant with another person. It is a spiritual discipline designed to help you know God better, trust him more fully, and love him more deeply.  What if God’s primary intent for your marriage isn’t to make you happy . . . but holy?

Sacred Marriage doesn’t just offer techniques to make a marriage happier. It does contain practical tools, but what married Christians most need is help in becoming holier husbands and wives. Sacred Marriage offers that help with insights from Scripture, church history, time tested wisdom from Christian classics, and examples from today’s marriages.

Child Dedication

Child Dedication

What is a child dedication?

A child dedication is when parents bring their newborn-5th grade child before God and dedicate themselves to raise the child to know and follow Jesus. This custom has its roots in the Hebrew Bible and was even done by Mary and Joseph eight days after the birth of Jesus.

When a child is dedicated to God, it does not take away original sin or guarantee any spiritual privileges to the child. The parents are simply recognizing their child as a gift from the Lord and are committing themselves to do everything in their power to point their children toward faith. Each child, on their own, must eventually choose whether or not they will personally repent of their sin, place their hope/trust in the sacrifice of Jesus to take away their sin and follow Him.

What will happen during the dedication?

We simply introduce your child to the church family, letting them know of your intentions to raise your child to know and follow Jesus. We then ask the church family to commit to pray for you and your child as often as they think about it. The pastor will then pray over your family.

What are the expectations of the parents?

We don’t expect parents to be perfect but we do expect them to set a godly example in the home. This means several things:

  • Both parents* have personally committed to faith in Jesus and have been baptized since beginning to follow Him.

  • Parents are not currently living a lifestyle of disobedience to God. Meaning that they are in a monogamous marriage of one husband and one wife.**

  • Both parents are committed to growing as followers of Jesus as members of this church family.

What does this mean for our family?

We, as parents, are committed to “love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength… And [we] commit ourselves wholeheartedly to this command [and will] repeat it again and again to our children. Talk about it when [we] are at home and when [we] are on the road, when [we] are going to bed and when [we] are getting up.” – Deuteronomy 6:4-7

*If you are a single parent, you are still able to dedicate your child to the Lord. We, as your church family, will do everything in our power to be a spiritual support for you and are available to serve your family.

**We recognize everyone’s legal right to live with or without regard to the will of God for their life. However, child dedication is reserved for those who choose, of their own accord, to live under the authority of the Word of God.

When is the next child dedication happening?

Once you let us know you are interested in participating in a child dedication through the form below, your location pastor will reach out to you 1-3 weeks prior to the next child dedication weekend!

Baptism

What exactly is baptism?

It is pretty simple! During one of our baptism services, you climb into a small baptism pool we set up in the auditorium, and in front of your friends and neighbors, you get quickly dunked underwater one time.

Who should get baptized?

In Matthew 28: 19 &20, Jesus commanded his disciples to baptize other disciples in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. “Disciples” is just a fancy word used to describe anyone who has chosen to turn from their disobedience toward God and selfishness toward fellow man, and follow Christ. So basically, according to scripture, anyone who has decided to follow Christ should then get baptized.

What does baptism symbolize?

The act of getting dunked under water is a picture of Jesus’s burial after taking the deadly punishment of our disobedience to God for us. The act of being lifted from the water is a picture of Jesus rising from the dead. Romans 6:4 puts it this way: “By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead […], we also may live a new life!”

What is the significance of baptism?

Baptism is to your faith like a wedding ring is to a marriage. Wearing a wedding ring is not what makes you married, but it IS a public statement to the world that lets people know ABOUT your marriage status. In the same way, baptism is a way of letting everyone know you have already decided to be “all in” with God.

How do I go “all in” with God anyway?

First, it is important to recognize that to go “all in” with God means recognizing that our relationship with God is broken because we have, at some point in our life, disobeyed Him or been selfish toward someone else. But God did not want us to have to be separated from Him forever. So he sent His son Jesus, who had never disobeyed a commandment or been selfish, to take our punishments for us. He was killed and then rose from death to life. Now all you have to do to have a relationship with God is choose to accept His gift of redemption and forgiveness, and follow the ways of Jesus. Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Okay, I have decided to go “all in” with God, and I would like to show that to the world by getting baptized. What now?
