We take so much for granted – our lives, loved ones, talents we have. But have you ever stopped to seriously ponder where all the good in your life actually originates? Most often we assume it’s from our own efforts and take full credit for it, but what if our thinking was totally backwards? In this video, we see what the Bible says about the true source of every blessing we receive. See the life changing difference between believing we’re entitled to the good we have versus understanding it all as an undeserved gift from God.

MESSAGE NOTES

“Gratitude has been shown to physically change the brain, improving health and quality of life. By intentionally reflecting on the good we tend to take for granted, thankfulness shifts how we process life experiences. It opens our eyes, magnifies blessings, and fills us with joy. Even amidst pain, gratitude helps us gain perspective – allowing past graces to outweigh present woes.”

  1. No One is Self-Made

[Deuteronomy 8:10-18]

“10 When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. 11 “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! 14 Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. 15 Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! 16 He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. 17 He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ 18 Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.”

[1 Corinthians 4:7]

“7 For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?”

Some of the most grateful moments come in self-reflection rather than self-reliance.

2. Everything comes from God

[Psalm 24:1]

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.

[Haggai 2:8]

“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

[Psalm 50:10-12]

“For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it.”

[Matthew 6:28-33]

28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

[Philippians 4:11-13,19]

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength… 19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

[Ephesians 2:8-9]

“8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

3. God gives good gifts

[James 1:16-18 ]

16 “So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”

[Romans 8:28]

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
