Some say that faith is the thing that keeps them grounded in life and others might say it’s a crutch people use. But what is the real purpose of my faith? What purpose does God have for my faith and is it to only benefit me or might God just be up to something much greater?

MESSAGE NOTES

As we wrap up this series today on loving our neighbors, it’s important that we don’t get weighed down on all that we’re not doing.

All that we still need to do to get better at sharing our faith and loving our neighbors. Instead, let’s focus on progress. And what we can do now to make a difference.

 ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

[Matthew 22:39]

Jesus says that’s the most important thing we can do. That’s how we live out our faith.

If we’re being honest, the great commission of God often feels more like the great inconvenience. Because we’re not focused on the reason behind it.

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

[Matthew 4:18-19]

If you’re too busy to do the mission of God, you haven’t let go of the net.

They left their nets at once and followed him.

[Matthew 4:20]

Following Jesus means leaving your net and old life behind.

Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted! Jesus came and told his disciples,  “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

[Matt. 28:16-18]

God’s mission is a joint partnership.

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

[Matt 28:19-20]
