Anger is an emotional warning light when we see injustice, feel threatened or suffer great loss. It becomes an unhealthy emotion when it becomes the platform on which decisions are made. When it festers and grows, it becomes rage.
Four ways to tell if your anger has become a problem:
- It arises without any trigger, seemingly out of the blue
- It is disproportionate to its trigger in its frequency, intensity, duration and strength
- It does not subside after the offending person has apologized
- It occurs in a social context which does not sanction anger and aggression
[Colossians 3:12]
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
- PUT ON MERCY, KINDNESS, HUMILITY, GENTLENESS, PATIENCE
[Colossians 3:13]
“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
2. ACCEPT OTHERS FAULTS AND LET THEM GO
[Ephesians 4:32]
“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
[Colossians 3:14]
“Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.”
3. PUT ON LOVE
[Philippians 2:4]
“Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”
[Colossians 3:15]
“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
4. LET THE PEACE THAT COMES FROM JESUS DRIVE YOU
[Colossians 3:16-17]
“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”
