Last week, we learned about the kind of love that God asks His followers to show to others. An unconditional, selfless, proactive love. A love that loves even when love is not shown back. But for many of us, it’s tough just keeping our own life together let alone have the mental, physical, and emotional capacity in order to love and give to others in the way that God asks us to. If you find yourself in this place in life right now, this week’s teaching is for you. Pastor Sean talks about why we often find ourselves exhausted, overworked out, with no margin left to give anyone else and gives us 4 tips to find a more healthy rhythm to carry you through the seasons of life.

MESSAGE NOTES

God wants us to live in healthy rhythms.

How many of us wish that our lives were more balanced? What does that mean though? We know that our lives are unhealthy but we don’t know what a healthy life actually looks like. I know unhealthy….

We are short with our spouse, kids, and co-workers. We pull away from our friends. We lose sleep, become anxious, and retreat into escape activities.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

  • My concern is that we’re not very good at knowing what time it is.
  • While seasons change automatically, I’m not sure our rhythms in life do.
  • Health is found in knowing what time it is.

So how do you know what season of life you’re in right now?

  • I don’t know that I can do that.
  • You have to figure out what THIS season requires of you.
  • Seasons you can’t change, rhythms you can!
  • Seasons force us to change our rhythms.
  • The secret isn’t in the season, it’s in the rhythms.

I’m not paying attention to my season, so my life is out of rhythms.

  • Having babies, entrepreneurs, saving a business, going to college.
  • Healthy rhythms look a little different in each season.

God is the author of living in rhythms (and He created seasons)

  • Genesis 2:1-3 Did God need rest?
  • He was establishing a pattern of rhythms for us to copy.
  • So important to Him FOR us.(Exodus 20:8-11)
  • Rotate crops and not plant every 7 years.
  • Year of Jubilee
  • AND He included it for everyone else (Hebrews 4:9-11)
  • Sabbath is built in mechanism for rhythms
  • Rhythms comes from Sabbath. Healthy rhythms aren’t natural.

3 Myths

  1. The busier I am, the more successful I am.
  2.  I don’t have time to slow down.
  3. I’ll slow down when I’m rich

Rhythms (Sabbath) isn’t for the wealthy, it’s for the healthy.

  • Rhythms has nothing to do with wealth, responsibilities, workload, leftover margin. Rhythms is a CHOICE to live Biblically.
  • You’re too busy NOT to rest.

4 Tips For Making Sabbath A Regular Part Of Your Life

  1. Choose when you’ll Sabbath (Mark 2:27), (Romans 14:5).
  2. Bookend periods of rest around periods of stress
  3. Know what season you’re in, find appropriate sabbath
  4. Take mini-sabbaths throughout the day

APPLICATION:

How “full” are you right now?

How much emotional margin do you have?

Would those closest to you say that you are living well, right now?

Be FOR your family what you need from them.

Imagine what it would look like if everyone in here had the bandwidth to BE for others what we NEEDED from them. Sabbath is the only way we find it.

What is ONE THING you can do this week to practice Sabbath, to rest well, to fill your tank?

It’s not about being true to yourself. It’s about being obedient to God. That will always bring us the best, others the greatest benefit and God the most glory.
