We live in a world that constantly pressures us to have all the answers—to think faster, know more, and stay in control. But the more we rely on our own understanding, the more disconnected, anxious, and exhausted we feel. What if our need to figure everything out is actually keeping us from the peace we’re searching for? In this message, Pastor Sean Sears unpacks the subtle ways we place our trust in ourselves instead of God—and how learning to let go can lead to the freedom and clarity our hearts are craving.

MESSAGE NOTES

IN KNOWLEDGE WE TRUST

March 30, 2025

“It’s not that you can’t love God and be educated, it’s just that your education must submit to God’s revelation.”

“We have access to more information than any generation in history, but somehow we’re more confused, anxious, and morally lost than ever.”

WARNINGS

[Genesis 3:5-6] “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil. The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it.”

“Sin entered the world not through ignorance, but through a desire for enlightenment apart from obedience.”

[Romans 1:22-25] “Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.”

DANGERS

[Proverbs 3:5-7] “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.”

[Isaiah 5:20-21] “What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever.”

[Jeremiah 9:23-24] “This is what the LORD says: ‘Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me.'”

“We don’t pursue truth just to be right; we pursue truth to know and glorify God.”

THE SOLUTION

[Proverbs 9:10] “Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.”

“True wisdom begins not with credentials or information, but with humility and reverence.”

[John 14:6-7] “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.'”

“Jesus doesn’t just tell us truth—He is the Truth.”

[1 Corinthians 1:25] “This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.”

APPLICATION

“We don’t need to check our brains at the door, we need to submit them to authority of the one who gave them to us in the first place.”

“The question isn’t how much you know but how much you trust the one who knows all things.”

“Jesus, help me trust not in what I know, but in who You are.”
