What Following Jesus Looks Like In Real Life

May 24, 2026

Big Idea:
Following Jesus isn’t about changing your location — it’s about changing your allegiance. Real discipleship shows up in everyday life through surrender, obedience, integrity, and influence.

Main Scripture

Acts 18:1–3
“After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he became acquainted with a Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently arrived from Italy with his wife, Priscilla… Paul lived and worked with them, for they were tentmakers just as he was.”

Acts 18:24–26
“Meanwhile, a Jew named Apollos, an eloquent speaker who knew the Scriptures well, had arrived in Ephesus from Alexandria in Egypt… When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately.”

Main Points

1. Following Jesus Happens in Everyday Life

Aquila and Priscilla weren’t pastors or platform leaders — they were ordinary people living surrendered lives in ordinary places.

  • They worked regular jobs
  • They built relationships
  • They lived out their faith daily

Acts 18:3
“Paul lived and worked with them, for they were tentmakers just as he was.”

Key Thought:
You don’t have to leave your life behind to follow Jesus. You invite Jesus into every part of it.

2. Following Jesus Means Investing in People

Aquila and Priscilla took time to disciple Apollos and help him grow in truth and maturity.

Acts 18:26
“When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately.”

  • They noticed potential
  • They cared enough to step in
  • They helped someone take their next step spiritually

Key Thought:
Discipleship often happens personally, relationally, and quietly.

3. Following Jesus Changes How You Live Where You Are

The goal of discipleship is not simply more knowledge — it’s surrender and obedience in real life.

  • At work
  • In relationships
  • In conversations
  • In private decisions

Colossians 3:17
“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus.”

Key Thought:
God uses everyday faithfulness to accomplish Kingdom purposes.

Anchor Truth
