Several Consequences Of This Lie:
- We belong on the island of misfit toys (damaged goods).
- I’m unworthy to be used by God.
- Can’t see he blessings in our lives.
- Keep people at arm’s length.
Three Truths –
- My Emotions Are Not Bad
Negative emotions are often very helpful because they are warning signs to us that things are no as they should be.
The questions is, “What does your guilt motivate you to do?”
- Bury it and run away?
- Blame it on others?
- Beat yourself up?
- Or drive you towards the One who can remove it?
- My Past Does Not Define Me
Jude 1:24 – Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.
1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 – For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. 10 Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.
- My Pain Doesn’t Own Me
You can have revenge or peace, but you can’t have both.
Romans 12:17-21 –
Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,
“I will take revenge;
I will pay them back,”[a]
says the Lord.
20 Instead,
“If your enemies are hungry, feed them.
If they are thirsty, give them something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap
burning coals of shame on their heads.”[b]
21 Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.
APPLICATION:
- Pray (Acknowledge your sin, accept responsibility, ask for his forgiveness, accept his forgiveness).
- Fill your mind with God’s Word
- Believe what God says
(Eph 1:4: Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.)
Focus on where you’re going more than where you’ve been.
