New Heaven And New Earth

There are some things in life you’d like sooner than later. We want a raise sooner than later. We want to get married sooner than later. We probably want a house or a new car sooner than later. But when it comes to the idea of Heaven, most of us would probably choose later rather than sooner. But why is that? Isn’t heaven supposed to be so much better? In the last week of our series The End, Pastor Sean deals with the fact that most people would want heaven later is because they have an incorrect view of what heaven will be like. He also shows from the Bible what heaven will be like and how we can apply what we read in the Bible to our lives right now.

2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

 

Rev 21:1 – Most people have no idea what heaven is like.

  • They think it’s a never ending church service OR St. Peter at the pearly gates checking people in.
  • 1 Corinthians 2:9 tells us that “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him”.
  • No verse or description is going to fit!

TWO LIES ABOUT HEAVEN

 

It’s better than hell, but also better later than sooner.

  • Ever thought, “Life doesn’t get better than this!? This WILL be.
  • Ps 84:10 – “A single day is better in your courts than a 1,000 elsewhere.
  • Ps 16:11 – You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”

 

Most people go to heaven.

  • Matthew 7:13-14  – Narrow/wide gate, “only few find it.”

 

Rev 21:1-2

  • This is in Is 65:17, 2 Peter 3
  • If there’s a new heaven and new Earth, chances are you’ll enjoy the same things there as you do here (golf, gardening, construction projects, swimming, woodworking, crafts, basketball etc).

 

Rev 21:3-5

– No more death

No more sorrow

No more pain

Everything is brand spanking new just like in Genesis.

 

Rev 21:3 

  • We cannot look at God and live
  • Last people who did that were Adam and Eve
  • Until we get to look at Him in the face, be overwhelmed..and live.

 

APPLICATION:

There are 2 groups of people:

  • Those who are disconnected with God and distracted chasing other things.
  • Those who are connected with God and still distracted chasing other things.
