- According to IBM the doubling of knowledge has gone from every 25 years (1945) to every 12 hours. We have unlimited knowledge at our fingertips: Google/Youtube
- The average American spends 7 hours a day on screens, pre Covid.
We do just about everything on a screen…. work, school, shopping, online dating, refrigerators have screens and even church is online. Now, there is nothing wrong with any of that, but we would all agree SCREENS have impacted our life.
We have access to more content than ever before, but feel more disconnected than ever before.
You see, the problem isn’t the amount of information we have access to, but what we do – or don’t do – with that information that makes the difference.
16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.
[Romans 1:16]
17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”
[Romans 1:17]
18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
[Romans 1:18]
19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”
[Romans 1:19-20]
“Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshipped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! AMEN”
[Romans 1:21-23, 25]
The end result in spiritual growth is increased worship, not increased knowledge.
There are 2 problems with convenience…
- Convenient is rarely more meaningful.
2. The more convenient something is, the less meaningful it often is for us.
If we are not careful… We can go from watching our screens to worshipping our screens, and from worshipping God to watching God.
- Convenience increases the noise in our lives.
Your life may be loud, but your soul can still be quiet.
