God has so much more for you than to digest religious content. God says, I have a job for you. One that I have uniquely designed you to do. We might be looking to God and faith to bring value or comfort to our lives, but what we often miss is that God has a purpose for you to carry out! A purpose that He has designed specifically for you! One that brings joy, motivation, and the opportunity for you to make a difference in the world. So what is this purpose and how can you find it?

MESSAGE NOTES

There are two ways Christians need to get moving: IN the local church and AS the local church

  1. IN THE LOCAL CHURCH

[1 Peter 4:10-11]

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”

“God has given each of you a gift”

  • You’re good at something
  • You’ve learned something
  • You’ve experienced something
  • How are you using these things to serve other people in this church family?

[Ecclesiastes 10:10]

“Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.”

2. AS THE LOCAL CHURCH

[Philippians 2:1-8]

“Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.  You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,  he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”

[James 2:15-17]

“Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,  and you say, ‘Goodbye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well’ – but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?  So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”

[1 Corinthians 9:19-23]

“Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law.  When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ. When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.”

The Roman Emperor Julian regretted the progress of Christianity and wrote, “Atheism (Christianity) has been specially advanced through the loving service rendered to strangers, and through their care for the burial of the dead. It is a scandal that there is not a single Jew who is a beggar and that the godless Galileans care not only for their own poor but for ours as well; while those who belong to us look in vain for the help that we should render them.”

  • THIS is the essence of Christianity to those outside of our faith
  • We are the people who genuinely care, who help, who love, who serve, who give
