It’s easy to chase comfort, control, and what feels urgent—but those things rarely last. The more we hold on, the smaller our impact becomes. In this message, Pastor Sean Sears shows how God invites us to live with open hands—trusting Him with what we have so He can multiply it into something that lasts. You’ll learn how generosity grows your faith, shifts your perspective, and helps you invest in what truly matters.

MESSAGE NOTES

EVERY ONE

Invest in What Matters Most

Big Idea: Legacy isn’t what you leave when you die—it’s what you build while you live. God multiplies what’s in your hands when you surrender it to Him.

Recognize God as the Provider

[2 Corinthians 9:10]
“For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.”

[James 1:17]
“Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father.”

[Deuteronomy 8:18]
“Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful.”

  • Everything begins with God.
  • He provides both the seed (what you have) and the soil (where it grows).
  • My job isn’t to manufacture blessings—it’s to plant obedience.
  • The boy with five loaves and two fish didn’t have much, but God multiplied what he gave (John 6).
  • God never asks for what you don’t have—He multiplies what you do.

Question: “Is this seed to plant or bread to enjoy?”

Release What You’ve Been Given

[2 Corinthians 9:11–12]
“You will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. So two good things will result: the needs of believers will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.”

[Acts 4:34–35]
“There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.”

  • Generosity meets needs and multiplies worship.
  • There are changed lives on the other side of your giving.
  • What you release will always outlive you.
  • The Philippian church gave sacrificially, and Paul called their gift “a sweet-smelling sacrifice, acceptable to God.” (Philippians 4:15–18)
  • The Macedonian believers “begged for the privilege” of giving even in poverty (2 Corinthians 8:1–4).

[Matthew 6:20]
“Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy.”

Remain Surrendered to His Purpose

[2 Corinthians 9:13–15]
“As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity … will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ.”

[1 Chronicles 29:10–18] (Highlights)
“Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord… Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us.”

  • The ultimate goal of generosity is worship.
  • The woman who poured perfume on Jesus’s feet was ridiculed, but Jesus called it worship (Mark 14).
  • Legacy isn’t about how much I give—it’s about how much of me I surrender.
  • Ask God: “What portion of this have You given me to invest in Your Kingdom?”

Application

  • Recognize God as Provider.
  • Release what you’ve been given.
  • Remain surrendered to His purpose.
  • Everything you keep will fade; everything you give to God will last forever.
  • You don’t need wealth to build a legacy—you need willingness.

Closing Truth

Everything we keep will be lost, but everything we give to God will last.
Build something with your life that will outlast you.
