Introduction To Peter

It can be easy for us to look at men and women in the Bible as big heroes of the faith. I mean, after all, they are in the Bible. But what we often miss is that they often struggle in the very same ways we do! In the first week of this series, we will discover that Simon Peter wasn’t chosen and used by God because He had it all together, in fact He had plenty of reason to be overlooked. God isn’t looking for us to be something different than we are, if we’re willing God can take us just as we are.

MESSAGE NOTES

[1 Peter 1:1 ]

This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. 2 God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.

 

  1. Peter was normal BUT chosen. 

 

 

[Matthew 4:18-22]

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.

21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

 

 

[Acts 4:13]

The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. 

 

  1. Peter didn’t always get it but he got IT. 

 

 

  1. Peter failed and was forgiven and restored.
