How To Trust God With What You Have

Big Idea: When you prioritize what matters most to God, He will take care of what matters most to you.

Start with What You Have

[Hebrews 13:5]
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have. For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’”

[Luke 16:10]
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.”

[1 Timothy 6:6]
“True godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.”

  • Trusting God begins with what’s already in your hands.

  • If you can’t trust God with what you have, you won’t trust Him with more.

  • Contentment is the fruit of trust—believing God has already given enough for today.

  • “Money doesn’t change you. It just makes you more of what you already are.” — Dave Ramsey

Discipline Your Desires

[1 Timothy 6:17–18]
“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God… Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need.”

[Ecclesiastes 5:10]
“Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness!”

[Philippians 4:11–12]
“I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything.”

  • We often trust money to do what only God can.

  • The path to maturity is learning to want what God wants more than what we think we need.

  • Discipline means training your desires—letting go of craving more and trusting that God provides enough.

  • Contentment is learned through discipline, not comfort.

Practice Bold Generosity

[Mark 12:44]
“They gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”

[2 Corinthians 9:10]
“For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.”

  • Bold generosity doesn’t come from wealth—it comes from faith.

  • The widow gave everything she had, trusting God to take care of her.

  • Faith grows when you open your hands.

  • The harvest isn’t money—it’s changed lives, new legacy, and lasting peace.

Application

  • The question isn’t if you have enough to give—it’s whether you trust God to provide if you do.

  • Start trusting God by starting with what you already have.

  • Discipline your desires so you can create space for what matters most to God.

  • Bold faith begins with open hands.
