Unstoppable: God’s Plan For Multiplication

How To Talk About Your Faith

Introduction

“Sharing your faith with others can feel like walking through a minefield. It’s hard to know when to speak up and when to stay quiet, and the fear of damaging relationships often keeps us from sharing at all.”

God’s Rescue Mission Overview

  • God created mankind for relationship
  • Jesus atones for sin and reconciles us to God
  • The Holy Spirit dwells in believers
  • The church becomes an unstoppable community

Three Levels of Spiritual Readiness

  1. Felix – Spiritually Curious (Low to Medium)

[Acts 24:10-14] “The governor then motioned for Paul to speak. Paul said, ‘I know, sir, that you have been a judge of Jewish affairs for many years, so I gladly present my defense before you… But I admit that I follow the Way, which they call a cult. I worship the God of our ancestors, and I firmly believe the Jewish law and everything written in the prophets.'”

[Acts 24:24-25] “A few days later Felix came back with his wife, Drusilla, who was Jewish. Sending for Paul, they listened as he told them about faith in Christ Jesus. As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened.”

When talking with the Spiritually Curious:

  • Start with their questions
  • Don’t push when they stop
  • Leave room for the Holy Spirit to work
  1. Festus – Spiritually Disinterested (Very Low)

[Acts 25:10-12] “But Paul replied, ‘No! This is the official Roman court, so I ought to be tried right here. You know very well I am not guilty of harming the Jews. If I have done something worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die. But if I am innocent, no one has a right to turn me over to these men to kill me. I appeal to Caesar!'”

When dealing with the Spiritually Disinterested:

  • Let your lifestyle do the talking
  • Live in such a way that actions point to Jesus
  • Be a living example of the Gospel

“Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.”

  1. Agrippa – Spiritually Engaged (Medium to High)

[Acts 26:2-3] “I am fortunate, King Agrippa, that you are the one hearing my defense today against all these accusations made by the Jewish leaders, for I know you are an expert on all Jewish customs and controversies. Now please listen to me patiently!”

When talking with the Spiritually Engaged:

  • Share your personal story
  • Share the Scriptures
  • Answer their questions
  • Give a full defense of the faith

Paul’s Approach to Different Audiences

  1. Tailored Messages:
    • Felix: Brief, with minimal Scripture
    • Festus: Very brief, no Scripture
    • Agrippa: Detailed sermon with extensive Scripture
  2. Common Elements:
    • Built bridges appropriate to their comfort level
    • Maintained his innocence
    • Showed respect to authority
    • Always mentioned the resurrection

Application

  1. Following Jesus will not make you popular
    • Accept that people resist admitting sin
    • Stand firm in your faith
    • Speak truth kindly
  2. Following Jesus will bring amazing conversations
    • Share your story (Pre-Jesus, Jesus, Post-Jesus)
    • Ask what others think about Jesus
    • Invite them to follow Jesus
  3. Practical Steps:
    • Write out your testimony (short and long versions)
    • Memorize “Romans Road” (Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9-10, 10:13)
    • Pray for opportunities to share your faith

“Each speech was unique, not to Paul’s experience but to the uniqueness of the person he was speaking to.”
