Have you ever noticed how much pressure there is to go along with whatever everyone else believes? At work, online, and in everyday conversations, it can feel easier to stay quiet or blend in than to live out your faith. The world around us is always pulling us in a certain direction. This message explores what it looks like to stay grounded when the pressures of life push the other way. You’ll discover how faith shapes the way we approach our work, how we remain spiritually grounded, and why prayer becomes the place where God strengthens us to keep going.

Standing Under New Management

BIG IDEA  When Christ becomes Lord of our lives, His authority reshapes how we work, how we stand against spiritual opposition, and how we depend on God in prayer.

Point 1 — Jesus Changes How We Work

Ephesians 6:5–9

“Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free. Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.”

Paul writes to believers already living inside the Roman economic system, showing how the gospel transforms these relationships from the inside out. The closest modern parallel is the workplace — and believers ultimately work for Christ.

Ephesians 6:7

“Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

Matthew 5:16

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.”

For Employees

  • Work with integrity even when no one is watching.
  • Avoid “eye-service” — performing only when observed.
  • Pursue excellence as an act of worship and witness.

For Managers & Leaders

  • Treat employees with dignity.
  • Reject abusive authority.
  • Remember: Christ is the ultimate Master — He has no favorites.

Point 2 — Christ Strengthens Us to Stand

Ephesians 6:10–13

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”

We are in a spiritual war happening all around us, all the time. But Jesus has already won this war (Col. 2:15) — we participate in seeing the battle come to its appropriate end. We operate from the position of the winning side.

Satan rarely fights openly. His tactics are subtle: deception, discouragement, accusation, and division.

Ephesians 6:14–17

“Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

The Armor of God

1  Belt of Truth    The Battle for Reality

Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). Truth reminds us who God really is and who we are in Christ. It exposes deception and anchors our thinking in what God has said rather than what our emotions tell us.

2  Breastplate of Righteousness    The Battle Against Accusation

Our standing before God is not based on our performance — it is based on the righteousness of Christ credited to us. Jesus lived the life we could not live and gave us His righteousness in exchange for our sin.

3  Shoes of the Gospel of Peace    The Battle for Stability

When you know you are already accepted by God through Christ, you are not living for approval — you are living from acceptance. That peace steadies your feet and sends you forward with hope for the world.

4  Shield of Faith    The Battle Against Fear

Faith doesn’t deny reality — it trusts God’s promises more than the emotions of the moment. Faith reminds us that God is still faithful even when circumstances feel overwhelming.

5  Helmet of Salvation    The Battle for Assurance

The helmet protects the mind from invasive doubts about your salvation. It reminds us that our good deeds never saved us — that’s why we needed Jesus. Salvation secures our identity.

6  Sword of the Spirit    The Battle Against Lies

The Word of God is the only offensive weapon in the armor. Jesus defeated Satan in the wilderness by quoting Scripture. Our knowledge of Scripture corrects lies, realigns our emotions, and sheds light into dark corners.

Note: Every piece of armor protects the front of the soldier — there is no armor for the back. Believers are never told to retreat. The repeated command in the passage is: Stand.

Point 3 — Christ Sustains Us Through Prayer

Ephesians 6:18

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

Philippians 4:6–7

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Hebrews 4:16

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Prayer is not another piece of armor — it is the arena in which the battle is fought. Prayer is not a religious ritual; it is spiritual dependence.

  • Bring your weakness to God.
  • Ask for strength to stand.
  • Ask God to advance the gospel.
  • Ask God to protect and grow His church.

Application

Standing firm begins with reminding yourself every day what is already true in Christ:

  • Anchor your mind in truth.
  • Rest in Christ’s righteousness.
  • Trust God’s promises.
  • Remember your salvation.
  • Speak and believe God’s Word.
  • Pray daily — all day.

Daily Prayer Focus

Choose one moment each day to intentionally pray for three things:

  • Strength to stand against temptation.
  • Boldness to live publicly for Christ.
  • Someone in your life who needs the gospel.

The One who owns the house is committed to finishing the work He started.
