It’s hard to feel alone, but it’s even harder when you are going through a rough spot in life or when you have a big decision to make. Many times in life we feel like we are left to handle our lives all on our own. We see our issues as only being career issues, or relational issues, or mental issues. And we rarely look at them as potential spiritual issues. In today’s message, Pastor Ken gives three truths to uncover the lie that you’re alone to figure things out and gives us three actions steps that we can begin taking in order to overcome believing this lie.

MESSAGE NOTES

The SOURCE of the Lies: Satan

John 8:44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

The PROBLEM with Lies:

  • Impacts our relationships
  • We stay stuck
  • Leads us away from God’s Truth

The PATTERN with Lies:

  • Question God’s Word
  • Rejection of God’s plan & provision.
  • Denial of God’s Authority
  • Replacing authority (false worship/idolatry).

Genesis 3:1-5

The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

“Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied.“It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”

“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

Question: Did God really say?

Reject: Every fruit in Garden

Denial: You will not die

Replace: You will be like God – own authority.

Matthew 4:3-10

During that time the devil[a] came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,

‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]

Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,

‘He will order his angels to protect you.
And they will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’[c]

Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’[d]

Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

‘You must worship the Lord your God
    and serve only him.’[e]

Question: If you are the Son of God

Reject: Turn the stones into bread.

Denial: Test God (Like 4:30)

Replace: Worship Me
